STATE CHAPTER 667 – ELDERLY AND UNDER-AGED DISABLED
State-funded public housing for seniors and people with disabilities is open to households where one member of the household is at least 60 years of age or has a disability and meets certain income guidelines.
To apply for state-aided public housing, you must use the Common Housing Application for Massachusetts Public Housing (CHAMP). You can apply using CHAMP either online at the CHAMP website, or in person by completing a printed paper application.
HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER PROGRAM (“SECTION 8”)
The Housing Choice Vouchers Program (often referred to as “Section 8”) is the federal government’s primary program to provide housing for Americans who are living in poverty, as well as the elderly and disabled. It provides qualifying families with assistance in paying the monthly rental fee for homes and apartments that are located anywhere, not just in subsidized housing projects. In every major market in the country it is administered locally by municipal public housing agencies, which certify the tenants and residences for participation in the program.

FEDERAL PUBLIC HOUSING
Federal public housing is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Applications and verifying documentation for Federal Housing must be submitted by mail or in person to the Needham Housing Authority, 28 Capt. Robert Cook Drive, Needham MA 02494.
If you wish to apply for both Federal and State housing, you will have to complete both applications and submit both with the requested documentaion in order to be placed on both waiting lists.
While the State Housing Application can be submitted online, the Federal application must be downloaded, completed and returned to the Needham Housing Authority.
